Consultation
Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems,
concerns, as well as potential and /or available treatment options.
History and Examination
In order to determine the cause of your actual problem, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition.
Next, a number of specialized tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and the extent of their
involvment. This examination process may also include some use of technological studies called sEMG tests or Surface
Electronic Myleograph studies. Much like how an EKG measures the condition of your heart muscle, this will measure the
activity in your muscles at injured areas and give the doctor and staff a clearer picture of how encompassing your problems
are.
X-ray Studies
Your specific condition may require us to take some x-rays. We take x-rays to reveal the internal structure and
alignment of the spine. X-rays are taken while the patient is upright and bearing weight, which is the position the
body is in when you are not sleeping. Images taken in this position allow for a better functional analysis of the
spine and nervous system.
We are concerned about underlying disease processes and disorders of the spine
such as spinal deterioration, arthritis of the spine, abnormal development, bone spurs, disc disorders, tumors and
spinal curvature. X-rays may provide a blueprint for correcting the spine back to optimal health and alignment.
Same Day Treatment
Once finished with the examination and all appropriate diagnostic studies, patients will generally be provided with their
first treatment during this visit. This treatment may include specific spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft tissue
therapies.
Home Instructions
Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. These instructions
may include ice or heat application techniques, recommendations for avoidance of certain activities or positions,
as well as home exercises and/or stretches.
Your Report Findings
After your First visit, you and the doctor will discuss your individualized written treatment plan. This explanation will serve
as your “map” along your “road to recovery.”
The discussion will include short- and long-term goal planning, and answers
to the following four questions:
|
|
What is wrong? |
|
|
How can we treat your problem? |
|
|
How long will my treatment plan take? |
|
|
How much will my treatment cost? |
Various treatment options will be explained. We will also recommend a course of care. The doctor will explain the “Three
Phases of Care” and will assist you in choosing which type of care is right for you:
|
|
Initial Intensive Phase of Care.
Most patients begin with Initial Intensive Care. Visits tend to be frequent (usually 2 – 4
times per week), so that you feel better as quickly as possible. In addition to your adjustments and exercises, the doctor
may also recommend other therapies including electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser therapy, homeopathic
remedies, and acupuncture to help speed recovery and relieve your pain.
Depending upon your age,
condition, and lifestyle, repeated visits over several weeks may be needed to reduce your symptoms.
|
|
|
Rehabilitative Phase of Care.
With most of your obvious symptoms gone, the goal of Rehabilitative Care is long-term
correction of your condition. Your visit frequency will be reduced, and there will be a greater emphasis on self-care. Even
after you’re feeling better, joints, muscles, and other soft tissues can take weeks, or even months, to heal. Continued treatment during this phase will ensure proper healing & recovery and help to prevent a relapse.
|
|
|
Wellness Phase of Care.
After you’ve recovered, you may choose to schedule regular chiropractic “checkups” to help
maintain the improvement you’ve made. Like periodic visits to the dentist or optometrist, wellness care can help catch little
problems before they become major concerns.
Wellness care is an option that many of our patients choose to feel better,
improve athletic performance, prevent injury, and save time and money in the long run. Recommended visit frequency is
usually every 3 – 6 weeks, but it can vary depending upon your individual needs and lifestyle. |
Scheduling Your Next Appointment
You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete written report of findings. If you are married, your spouse or partner is always welcome to attend and ask questions. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.
